Enrolled
Today the kids were enrolled in the Brown Scapular. A very holy priest - just ordained in June - offered Mass and afterwards did the enrollment. It was such a special ceremony that I even had him place my scapular on me. I've been enrolled, since second grade - First Holy Communion. The scapulars were given to us. But there was no ceremony or anything said to us about the scapular. So, just to be on the safe side - I was enrolled. Again.
Some moms had their littles and even babies enrolled - but I only did my 6.5yo on up. I think First Commuion is the time most begin to wear one - though this priest did leave it to the discretion of the mom.
Good thing I got the kids scapulars when I went to the shrine last month!

Cavies
It was at the third petstore where we found more than one guinea pig - we just had to get two. Of course one for each daughter, but also because they do better with a companion. We got two females (they only sell females at the store we were at - plus the little research I did do said that you really want females vs. males. Males smell worse (ha ha!) and they're more active).
The girls picked out two babies who just happen to be sisters!
Aren't they adorable?
Having never had guineas before, we're finding them to be quite awesome! They just LOVE to cuddle (with people and each other) and make purring noises when they're content - it sounds sort of like pigeons cooing- it's SO CUTE!!! They also squeal a bit - mostly in the middle of the night - which is very loud. Not sure if this is due to their nature (I believe it's only Carmelite making the noises) or if it's because they're babies. At any rate, it wakes me up for now. And that's saying something, as I am quite the sound sleeper :)
Carmelite is very friendly. She has more of a bunny-looking nose. While Agnes would rather stay in her cage (which they share) and hide. Not very social.
This is only our third day with them - so if you have any experience with guinea pigs can you share your thoughts about them?

Around Our World in a Few Weeks
~ a few presents + lots of kids = lots of presents
~ after seeing this list and hearing moms in our group advocate the "homemade" microwave popcorn I've decided that when we're through with our huge box of popcorn I'll just buy a big bag of popcorn and add my own olive oil and pop away. Heck, I may even pop some on the stove top. The kids would surely get a kick out of that!
~ as I hastily blurted in the previous post, I went on a women's retreat - more precisely a homeschooling mother's retreat - the weekend of January 8th to the Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament. I had been with my family oh... 9yrs ago. Hard to imagine we only had 3 kids at that time. Back then we went to Mother Angelica Live and I met Mother backstage with our then 9mo Therese. Mother held Therese's little hand as she said a quick hello and then out the door she went after the show. Back to the monastery. Kayla was actually on T.V. for that episode - Michael Brown, I believe, speaking about the topic of his book. I don't remember too much about that, for we had a baby we were trying to keep quiet! LOL You think it's bad enough at Mass but during Mother's T.V show! Gees - it's such a small studio. I know Therese's shrills, squeals and fits are a part of that show, that is, until Daddy whisked her out the door and sat in Mother's personal office (where he happened to meet Raymond Arroyo :) Oh the stars we meet in Catholicwood - instead of Hollywood. Get it? Oh, nevermind!

M.I.P.
"The Most Important Person on earth is a mother. She cannot claim the honor of having built Notre Dame Cathedral. She need not. She has built something more magnificent than any cathedral, a dwelling for an immortal soul, the tiny perfection of her baby's body. The angels have not been blessed with such a grace. They cannot share in God's creative miracle to bring new saints to Heaven. Only a human mother can. Mothers are closer to God the Creator than any other creature; God joins forces with mothers in performing this act of creation…What on God's good earth is more glorious than this: to be a mother?" LF Christmas Party/Nursing Home Performance
Afterwards we went to the local nursing home where the girls sang Christmas carols, some performed on the piano & violin, and handed out stained glass Holy Family artwork to the residents which they had made at the previous LF meeting (I wish I had pictures of them but I don't :( - they were made with a black construction paper frame, contact paper, any picture, and lots of little pieces of various-colored tissue paper -- Oh wait! They got to keep one, so I can take a picture of those!! Yay :)
Seeing a gentleman kiss the back of Therese's hand really caught my attention. How lost is that little action in our culture? I thought it was a beautiful gesture and one I wish I could see more often. I suppose starting with my boys? Hmmm.... maybe.
The girls were very loving toward the elderly ladies and gentlemen. I noticed quite a difference in Therese's approach this year from last year's visit. She was so warm with them and even asked me if she could go back into the large entertaining room to visit with some who were just sitting alone. Some of our group were already leaving, and by this time Sophia had joined Therese in the large room. I soon had to motion to them that it was time.
We are planning to go back at Easter time. I know Therese will surely be looking forward to that!
