Play Along

What do you think this is? And if you *know* for sure - like Totus Tuus might, let's not give it away on the first comment. That means you too, Karen! ;) I'd like to see what y'all come up with.

hmm, trying to think of something witty here. they look kinda like burning candles and the image impressed on the foremost candle looks a little vulgar. i think it is in a catholic church though and since there are 3 i have to go with either the holy family or the blessed trinity. hmmm. i will guess it is god the father on the left, god the son on the right since it kinda looks like a crucifix next to it and the holy spirit in front since the dents kinda looks like wings. whatever it is i would call it weird and crappy.

Lol on Regina, as usual. "Weird and crappy."

My guess is 3 wise men.

I too had thought of the three wise men, but the one holding the cross makes me think maybe not. I definately can see the two with beards - you stumped me!

Where did you find this intersting creation?

It's a modern art piece called, "Bearded Pervs Surrounding G-spot In Bronze"

OR...it might be some sort of "tabernacle" (thankfully) hidden away in some Catholic church in California?

That was my off the cuff without reading the other comments. Now, I get to read the other comments...

Oh man, I think Regina might be right. God help us.

You may thank my dear sister for pointing me in the direction of the cathedral in LA. Laura, you crazy mama, you are right. Disgustingly enough - it is indeed, a tabernacle.

My sister went to the cathedral last week and was horrified and heartbroken all at the same time. The 'tabernacle' was in another room... otherwise known as a chapel.

Is this not appalling?

The post of the 'which one doesn't belong here' is the 'statue of mary' above the entrance to the cathedral. How disrespectful to our beautiful Blessed Mother.

I am really horrified by all this. Can't the Holy Father come over here and revamp some stuff?! I can hear him now... "What the !!??$#"

It certainly is something different. After reading the indepth description of the art and architechture of this church, I come to find that they have multicultral designers and good reason for their designs. I personaly am not attracted to this kind of artistic style, as you have all expressed, but somehow it makes sense to them. So I don't dare mock their artistic visions, and the love that went into these designs. They are not in any way disrespectful, just more modern than we are used to. If you had to think outside the box and modernize such a traditional thing as a tabernacle, what would you come up with? And would anyone like it?
